“BUGS 👏 ARE 👏 WILDLIFE”
- Jack of All Inverts
Salutations from the East Coast! I’m the Jack of all Invertebrates.
Since I was little I’ve always been obsessed with bugs. I started by raising butterflies with the help of my parents and have been working with Lepidoptera since. For over a decade I’ve been raising Bold Jumping Spiders. Mantises specifically have been a passion since Nike, my late Carolina Mantis (Stagmomantis carolina) baffled me and contributed to science by being the first recorded instance of her genus and species to display parthenogenesis - virgin birth. After discovering the bountiful menagerie of invert communities, I became inspired to share my invertebrates and educate the public about the importance of all species. I graduated in 2020 with a degree in Captive Wildlife Care and Education, and like it or not, bugs are wildlife.I pride myself in being a diverse keeper, as I was once told by a fellow iNaturalist that I had to pick a specific organism to focus and study. I reject that notion and aim to be a true jack of all trades. No group of critters is out of my reach, be it mantises, beetles, tarantulas or grasshoppers - I always seek to broaden my own knowledge. I hope to curate information about various invertebrates, contribute to entomological science, and expand my horizons as a keeper; all while providing affordable bugs to the average invert keeper.
I am currently working on tracking molts for various species of mantis to determine instars of maturity, as well as looking at when individuals seemingly gain or lose an instar. Additionally, I am keeping known parthenogenetic species such as Brunneria borealis to hopefully better understand this phenomena.
